Lace Closures And Lace Frontals: Which Is Better For A Custom Wig?

Posted on

When it comes to custom wigs, a natural appearance is the most important element. While the texture of the hair, color, and even the length of the unit can impact how natural it appears, whether you choose to have the unit designed with a lace closure or lace frontal is also important. Learn more about these lace options to help you decide which option you should choose.

Styling Options

A key element of making a custom wig unit look as natural as possible is having plenty of styling options. Fortunately, both lace closures and lace frontals offer some variety in this area, but lace closures offer a bit more flexibility.

An important thing to understand about wigs is that given the placement of the hair tracks, it's impossible to part any non-lace sections of a wig. Unfortunately, with lace front units, the lace only extends about an inch past the hairline.

Yet, with lace closures, the lace can extend as far back as the center of the head. As a result, this type of unit offers you more options to part and style the unit in a variety of different ways. The more flexible your styling options are, the more natural the unit will appear.

Lace Concealing

Custom units designed with lace are awesome as long as you can't see the lace. When the lace is exposed, it makes it easier for anyone to tell the person is wearing a wig.

One reason why it's sometimes so easy to spot the lace is the fact that the lace on the unit does not always match the complexion of the person wearing the unit; it could be too light or too dark. When the lace does not match your complexion, it causes it to stick out. Lace closures have an advantage in this area. Given the smaller area of lace, it's fairly easy to dye the lace to help make it match the color of your skin.

With lace frontals, given the amount of lace on the unit, it's often too hard to dye the lace as there is a chance that some of the dye will get on the hair. If you're concerned about lace matching, a closure is a better option.

Both lace closures and lace frontals have their pros and cons. Weigh each option and make sure you choose the option that is best suited for the look you want.
